Tomlinsons investment in Cumberland Ready Mix has continued with the purchase of eleven new mixers plus two new Volumetric Mixers.
The mixers were bought to do jobs that are time consuming such as manhole adjustments, posts, and other small projects. They are also useful for jobs where they might have a shortage of concrete supply. One of the big advantages of the mobile mixer is the ability to do a number of small jobs (having a max of 9 m total) without having to come back to the plant to refill with all the ingredients. This reduces customers waiting times and under load charges.
Each truck has separate compartments for all the necessary ingredients to produce concrete. On site, the unit will dispense the aggregates, cement and water through an auger that will mix all the ingredients to produce concrete.
According to Bob Brazeau, "With a regular Cumberland Ready Mix truck, the shelf life of the concrete is typically 2 hours. With a mobile mixer this does not apply since the concrete is batched as needed. So if we have to do a job far from the plant, we can do it."
