Springhill Landfill Phase 5 construction

Things are moving at the landfill. This includes materials. Construction is under way to prepare the base grades for Phase 5. The construction of Phase 5 base grades is part of the original plans for the landfill. When the base grades are complete for Phase 5 it will have a specially designed liner system. This system was designed by Golder Associates and approved by the Ontario Ministry of Environment. A quality control/quality assurance plan was developed by Golder Associates. This plan is in place to ensure the construction meets or exceeds quality standards for the construction of this phase.

The topsoil that was stripped during site preparations will remain on site. A berm was built at the west end of the landfill parallel to Highway 31 (Bank St.) using the stripped topsoil. The remainder will be used for final capping on Phases 1 & 2, which have been filled to capacity. Using the topsoil from on site to cap Phases 1 & 2 ensures the final cover will be filled with native vegetation. As always, Tomlinson is trying to make certain that operations at the landfill are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner.
