Infrastructure Stimulus Fund
On June 5th, the three levels of government announced that the City of Ottawa's infrastructure projects will receive $375 million in funding over the next two years.
According to Transport Minister John Baird, "Thousands of jobs will be created at a time when jobs are needed in our city, in our province, in our country."
Some of the projects that will get funding include:
- $47,700,000 for an extension of Terry Fox Drive in Kanata.
- $20 million for an extension of Hunt Club Road near Walkley Road.
- $65 million to widen Hazeldean Road near Terry Fox Drive in Kanata.
- $52,600,000 for a four-kilometre extension of the Transitway in Barrhaven.
- $38 million to construct a tunnel to connect light rail with rapid transit.
Tomlinson's has been working very closely to advance the stimulus program in Ottawa. Both Bert Hendriks and Tim Vizena were involved in the Mayor's Infrastructure Roundtable.
The roundtable consisted of representatives of the National Capital Heavy Construction Association, the Ottawa Construction Association, the Ottawa Chapter of Consulting Engineers of Ontario and senior officials with the City of Ottawa involved in infrastructure and procurement.
The City of Ottawa was fast off the mark to prepare a list of shovel ready projects, as well as identify ways to reduce the time it takes to design, tender, award and construct projects.
