Since 1996, R. W. Tomlinson Limited has operated the Springhill Landfill Site, which is owned by the City of Ottawa. The Springhill Landfill accepts only solid, non-hazardous residential and commercial waste. The primary waste stream is the residual from the construction and demolition recycling process.
This facility is also home to a Construction and Demolition Material Recycling Facility. Owned and operated by R.W. Tomlinson Limited it is the only one of its kind in Eastern Ontario. Diversion includes wood, steel and aggregates. Construction and Demolition waste comprise 90% of the waste stream and municipal solid waste 10%. Historically, over 70% of the material passing through the facility has been recycled into reusable soil, wood, steel and rubble, surpassing Ministry requirements. Located in the former Township of Osgoode, the landfill property is 40.5 hectares (100 acres), with a landfill footprint of 19.2 hectares (47.4 acres). The height of the landfill cannot exceed 111.9 meters above sea level when 0.9 meters of final cover is applied.
