King Edward Avenue Renewal
York Street to Macdonald Cartier Bridge/To Sussex
($23 million)
One of the busiest links in Ottawa is getting a facelift. This challenging project requires a full reconstruction of the main arteries and the adjacent connecting streets. The work began last fall by rerouting the commuting traffic to the west side of the existing roadway and relining the existing collector sanitary and storm sewers under the closed section of King Edward. This work is followed by the reconstruction of all underground utilities including rock boring under King Edward, full roadbed excavation, granulars and various mixes of hot mix asphalt, electrical and traffic ductwork complete with wiring street lights and pedestrian lighting. Concrete curbs, sidewalks and interlocking paver stones, the rehabilitation of the Red Path structures, the demolition of one structure and three new landscape wall structures with a stone veneering facing are in the plans. Top soil, trees, shrubs and sod to top dress the areas outside of the hard surfaces will complete the project.
